Hi. It’s time for “Thanksday” round three. So, you ask, how many of these will he do? Well here, I say, is my answer. I have no clue, but at least three. But hey, if you like gratitude posts, let me know. If you don’t…just smile and nod.
It's Thurs Thanksday!
Today I’m grateful for music. It appears to me that, by and large, humans like music. But I don’t know why. Did you ever think about it. Did you ever ask why you like a particular kind of music, or why that one song makes you stop and listen when it comes on?
Do you like it because it’s so groovy? Do you like it because it makes you think? Do you like it because gives you all the feels, or reflects the feels you already have?
Maybe you like the technical achievement of a piece. Maybe the talent of the performers inspires or excites you. Or maybe you just like to dance to it.
Maybe you like it because it elevates your praise and worship of God. Maybe you like it because it triggers discontent with the state of things. Or maybe you just like to tune the world out and get lost in it.
Maybe you like longwinded Beethoven symphonies. Maybe you like longwinded live versions of rock music. Or maybe you’re really into film scores. And of course, it doesn’t matter if you like the commercial jingles from when you were a kid; they’re in your head anyway.
I was never much of a Sinead O’Connor fan, but when I heard of her passing, that cover of “Nothing Compares 2 U” immediately came to mind and stayed there for a week. There’s something about music that sticks. If I think about church, I will think about music. If I think about school, music. If I think about camp, music. If I think about movies, music. If I think about sports, music. If I think about my kids, yep, music.
I don’t know why humans like music, and I don’t know why it’s everywhere and gets stuck in your head. But I’m glad that it does. It adds something. It communicates like nothing else. In this world that reminds us that things can always get worse, music reminds us that there is good, too.
OK friends, why are you thankful for music? What’s your favorite?
I like music because I like to get in my own world.
I love this appreciation of music post, it deserves it.
I don’t know why people love music so much, but I think it’s good for us. And I love movie soundtracks (Pirates of the Caribbean, How to Train Your Dragon, Star Wars).
